Arctic Monkeys WILL perform at Glastonbury after laryngitis fears

Glastonbury co-organizer Emily Eavis has confirmed that the Arctic Monkeys will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday after their set was called into question earlier this week.

The rock band announced on Monday that frontman Alex Turner had acute laryngitis which forced them to cancel their show in Dublin’s Marlay Park on Wednesday.

Broadcasting from the festival grounds at Worthy Farm, Zoe Ball asked on her BBC Radio 2 show if the band would still be playing, to which Emily replied ‘they are busy’, which was met with applause.

“It was close there for a minute and we were thinking about whether we should have a serious backup plan but no, luckily they’re on it so that’s great,” she added.

It comes after she revealed there were “backup plans” in case Arctic Monkeys have to pull out of their headline slot on Friday.

The rockers had to cancel their show at Dublin’s Marley Park on Tuesday night after frontman Alex Turner, 37, was stricken with ‘acute laryngitis’.

Emily is confident the group will be ‘fine’ to headline the iconic Pyramid Stage on Friday – despite the headline set being on the line with just one day to go.

She is quoted by The Times newspaper as saying, ‘I think we’ll be fine. They canceled that, he’s recovering. I’m sure we’ll be fine.

“If not, we have a few backup plans. We always have backup plans for everything.”

Asked if a rumored performance by American rockers Foo Fighters could turn into a headline slot on Friday if the Mardy Bum hitmakers had to pull out, she said: “I wouldn’t want to give anything away.

“You have to let the surprise happen. It’s all about the surprise.’

The Arctic Monkeys headline gig is on the line as frontman Alex battles acute laryngitis.

The group were forced to pull out of a show in Dublin on Tuesday and their singer has been ordered to rest by doctors, leading fans to fear they won’t be able to perform at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Music aficionados have theorized who could be called upon to replace the indie rock group if they are forced to pull out.

Attendees, who paid £340 for a full weekend ticket, believe they’ve found a solution – former One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles – touting as a possible replacement as he has a perfectly timed gap in his schedule.

The 29-year-old singer, whose Love on Tour show has become a global hit, has a two-day break in his schedule meaning he can get to Somerset in time to perform.

He will perform at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Wednesdays and Thursdays and take the stage in Werchter, Belgium on Saturday, giving him more than enough time to pack one more show.

‘Only a two-hour drive from Glasto. He’s the perfect replacement,” one fan wrote on Twitter, highlighting how close Cardiff are to Glastonbury.

Another wrote: “Harry Styles for Glasto as they pull out.”

Harry is also rumored to be one of many surprise guests at Sir Elton John’s headline performance on Sunday night, as he has another gap in his schedule.

Dua Lipa, Eminem and Pulp are also being touted as potential secret artists, while Guns ‘n’ Roses headlines Saturday.

But while the theory has made Harry fans happy, it will do little to comfort the heartbroken Artic Monkeys fans who have expressed concern that Glastonbury has been endangered.

‘Woah, what about Glastonbury? He won’t recover well for Glastonbury’ tweeted a concerned person.

‘Also Glastonbury will be canceled acute laryngitis has at least a week to recover from’ shared a second.

A third bewildered devotee remarked, “Nooooooooo! please get better from Glastonbury.”

Speculating who could replace them, a fourth wrote: ‘It looks likely Arctic Monkeys won’t make it to Glastonbury on Friday night…expect some very quick moves and Foo Fighters as the new headliners

“Mark my words, if Alex Turner doesn’t play Glastonbury, I’ll never listen to a song by the Arctic monkeys again,” sighed a fifth.

With another addition: “Obviously Alex Turner’s health comes first, but if the Arctic Monkeys have to pull out of Glastonbury, I’ll be robbed.”

Arctic Monkeys were scheduled to perform at Ireland’s Marlay Park on Tuesday ahead of their upcoming gig at Glastonbury this weekend.

The band apologized to their Irish fans in their Monday afternoon announcement, explaining that ticket holders will face issues with a full refund within six working days.

In a statement shared on social media, the band said: “We are deeply sorry to announce the cancellation of the Arctic Monkeys show at Marlay Park in Dublin Tomorrow.

“Alex suffers from acute laryngitis and has been given rest on medical advice. Alex and the band apologize for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause all their Irish fans.

‘Full refund will be refunded by Ticketmaster to the ticket buyer’s account within six working days.’

Arctic Monkeys made their highly anticipated return to the big stage this month and have already performed in Manchester, Norwich, Sheffield and Swansea.

The band are busy promoting their latest album, The Car, and will end the UK leg of their tour in Glasgow on June 25.
