- A new report claims Arcane could last five seasons
- However, the two seasons reportedly cost over $200 million to make
- However, Riot Games and Netflix are not concerned about how expensive it was
Arcane Season 2 will bring the curtain down on the hugely popular Netflix show very soon, but it sounds like that won’t always be the case.
According to a new report from Varietythe critically acclaimed and award-winning animated series was initially expected to have more episodes. Indeed, Variety’s sources claim that Riot Games, which is overseeing development, will move ahead Arcane had initially budgeted for a run of five seasons alongside Netflix and animation studio Fortiche Production.
Of Arcane Season 2 was supposed to be the final chapter of the hit series, but those plans were – if Variety’s report is to be believed – significantly changed at some point during production. It is unclear whether the plan for Riot, Netflix and Fortiche is the first League of Legends (Lol) The adaptation was changed when Season 1’s development reached its peak or while Season 2 was being made.

Based on Variety’s report, the decision to wrap up Arcane‘s story after two seasons appears to be money-related. According to the outlet’s sources, one of the best Netflix shows of all time is also the most expensive animated series ever made, with Riot reportedly pumping an eye-watering $250 million (roughly, anyway) into 18 episodes spread over two seasons. A reported $80 million has been spent on season 1, with another $100 million on the sequel, which will air exclusively on Netflix starting Saturday, November 9.
Variety’s sources note that the costly undertaking was largely due to a “labor-intensive approach,” script delays during Season 2’s development and Riot’s decision to fund a $60 million marketing campaign ahead of Season 1’s release in November 2021. That final amount is far too high. greater than what Netflix would have spent on its own promotional campaign, although Netflix and Riot declined to comment on the details of their financial outlay when contacted by Variety.
Either way, Netflix and Riot aren’t losing sleep over how much they reportedly spent on the show. Arcane became Netflix’s new TV darling upon the launch of Season 1 three years ago, with the Lol-inspired series that becomes the most streamed show in 85 countries in its first week on the world’s top streaming service, earning a rare but fully deserved 100% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
With the TV project also winning four Emmys at the 2022 Television Academy awards ceremony, including a historic Outstanding Animated Program gong, there’s little doubt that the couple feels vindicated about how much it costs to make. This much is clear from a response Marc Merrill also gave to Variety, in which the Riot co-founder said: “We are more than comfortable with the expenses required to deliver a show that will take up the time of our players was worth.”
As I mentioned earlier, the long-awaited release of Season 2 is almost upon us and, if Arcane The official trailer for season 2 is everything we could expect, it looks like it will be just as epic, heartbreaking and action packed as its predecessor.
