Arab world rages against America: Beirut embassy under siege, troops in Iraq intercept drone strikes and protesters in Istanbul burn US flags as tensions flare amid support of Israel

  • Biden’s historic visit to Israel is the first by any wartime president
  • Many in the Arab world blame America for supporting the Israeli military

When President Biden hugged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday in a show of solidarity amid the ongoing war against Hamas, America drew the ire and fire of pro-Palestinian crowds in neighboring Arab countries.

The US embassy in Beirut has been under siege for almost 24 hours, with Lebanese troops using tear gas and throwing stones in an attempt to disperse angry crowds.

In Iraq, US forces intercepted two attempted drone attacks on al-Asad air base.

American flags burned in Istanbul, where an angry crowd of protesters clashed with riot police, while the US consulate in Adana, Turkey, closed its doors after a night of angry demonstrations.

The tension also led to security problems closer to home: a bomb threat at the American embassy in Buenos Aires led to an emergency evacuation.

As midnight approached in the Middle East, their anger over Biden’s historic and continued support for Israel only seemed to grow.
