Apple’s new iOS 18 feature is being called ‘a cheater’s paradise’

Apple has unveiled a new feature with the upcoming iOS 18 that has sparked controversy among users – with some saying it’s ‘a cheater’s paradise’.

The new update allows users to hide or lock apps on their iPhone’s home screen, hiding their personal hobbies and information from prying eyes.

While Apple touted it as a way to keep banking apps private and prevent kids from buying items on Amazon, many people see the feature as a tool for partners to easily cheat.

Social media erupted with posts about the new app, with some calling it “sick,” while others praised the new feature for allowing them to hide dating apps from their partner.

‘Users can now lock an app; and for added privacy, they can hide an app and move it to a locked, hidden apps folder,” Apple shared in an announcement after the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.

“When an app is locked or hidden, content such as messages or emails in the app are hidden from searches, notifications, and other places in the system.”

Hiding an app allows users to hide the app’s icon and name from the home screen, which also pauses notifications.

That includes any apps downloaded from the App Store, such as those for dating and social media.

But the feature creates a ‘Hidden App’ folder in the App Library, which shows that the user is trying to keep some things secret.

Users can also lock built-in apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Phone, Photos and Safari, which can only be opened with Face ID.

“Locked and hidden apps give users the peace of mind that information they want to keep private, such as app notifications and content, won’t accidentally be seen by others,” Apple said in the announcement.

Apple has announced what it calls Apple Intelligence, an all-new AI-powered system running across all its platforms and devices that can solve users’ problems, respond to prompts, and also create new text and images.

The system can pull information from apps like Maps, Mail and Messages to help with planning and scheduling, offer rewrites, summaries and proofreading of text, and create new images based on user prompts or ideas – already common in generative AI tools elsewhere available.

In an effort to differentiate itself from its rivals, Apple has promoted Apple Intelligence as “more personal,” saying it is “rooted in the things that make you you” to help users complete tasks “in a way that suits you.” you work’. and talked about the system’s ability to understand a user’s ‘personal context’ to provide him/her with the most useful solution.
