Rumors are swirling that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 will get a “major” update not seen before on previous smartphones.
According to industry experts, the more expensive models, the Pro and Pro Max, charge twice as fast when using compatible power adapters.
The iPhone 15 series charges to 50 percent in 30 minutes, but future devices will only need 15 minutes to reach the same level.
The prediction is based on rumors that Apple will put larger batteries in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
Apple gets a major update for the iPhone 16 by offering faster charging speeds with compatible power adapters
Current iPhone models support charging speeds of 27 watts. It takes two hours to charge the battery to 100 percent, as the fastest speed is 15 watts.
The wattage of a wall charger determines how much power the charger can supply to the phone and how quickly the device can be charged.
And the higher the wattage, the faster the charging.
A smartphone should be built to charge faster. For example, an older device designed to use a 20-watt charger will not charge its battery any faster if it uses a higher-wattage charging cable.
But Apple’s upcoming 16 high-end series will reportedly have the ability to offer 40 watts wired charging and 20 watts wireless charging.
Reports suggested that the faster charging speed would be almost twice as fast as the iPhone 15 series.
iPhone fans expressed their excitement on social media, with some saying it was “finally” and calling the fast charging a “significant upgrade.”
Consumers will likely need to purchase a compatible charger from Apple to take advantage of the fast battery charging feature.
To fast charge an iPhone from the 8th series onwards, you’ll need a USB-C cable or a USB-C to Lightning cable and a higher-power 20-watt adapter, according to Apple.
Users have complained about the iPhone 15’s battery charging speed, which they say is slower than the Pro models. Older adapters are also causing the phone to charge slowly, taking five hours to go from zero percent to 100 percent.
Someone took to Reddit to ask why Apple hasn’t made charging faster, even for the more expensive iPhones.
Apple is also planning other changes for the iPhone 15, including improved camera features and a new design
Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 in September, featuring an all-new design and improved battery life.
The batteries in the standard iPhone 16, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max could be larger, offering two to six percent more battery than the iPhone 15.
Rumor has it that each model except the 16 Plus has about 200 mAh (milliamp hours) more than the iPhone 15.
The mAh rating indicates how much energy a battery can store and how long the device can operate before needing to be recharged. A higher mAh rating means the battery can hold more charge and last longer.
The fast charging option comes as part of Apple’s secret plan to revolutionize future iPhone models by making it easier to replace batteries, which now require tweezers and a specialized device.
Instead of encasing the power source in metal instead of foil (also called induced adhesive debonding), people can remove the battery with a small electric shock using a DC power supply. This power supply is used to test and charge electronics and is widely available.
The battery update could come to at least one model of the iPhone 16 this year, with all iPhone 17 versions rolling out next year.
There are also rumors that Apple will make a major redesign of the iPhone 16’s camera, marking the first time since 2013 that a new design has been made.
While Apple has yet to release any details about its upcoming smartphone, new leaks claim that the device will feature a dual-camera setup, with one dedicated to a wide and an ultra-wide field of view.
The design of the iPhone 16 is also getting an upgrade, with its titanium frame, giving the device a sleeker look. iPhone 15 Pro users complained that the device temporarily changed color when it came into contact with the natural oils of human skin.
