Apple stops production of THREE popular iPhone models after announcing a new smartphone
Apple has officially halted production of three popular iPhones, amid the launch of the iPhone 16 during its Glowtime event on Monday.
The iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are no longer in production. Only refurbished or in-stock units remain on the market.
Apple normally leaves older iPhones alone after releasing their flagship smartphones in September, so the latest Pros are usually in the firing line.
However, the iPhone 13 was the last model in this series to survive; the Pro models were discontinued in 2022.
The iPhone 15 model has been discontinued, making it the fastest model to be pulled from shelves in Apple history
By ceasing production of the iPhone, Apple is able to release the new iPhone 16 Pro models, which are expected to make waves in the coming months.
However, the iPhone 15 Pro was only released last year, making it the fastest Apple smartphone ever discontinued.
Users have expressed their confusion on X, wondering why Apple discontinued the 15 Pro and Pro Max, when they were only released last year.
According to one person, Apple’s discontinuation of the 15 Pro, Pro Max, and 13 models is “a ploy to force you to buy the iPhone 16.”
Yet another user responded to Apple withdrawing the Model 13: “I now have the Model 13 after waiting years for it…”
Because most iPhones are so expensive, many users wait several years before they can purchase a model at a reduced price.
By waiting to purchase a model, users can avoid potential bug issues that may occur in new phones, and determine whether it is worth upgrading to the latest model or whether they can save money by buying the previous generation.
Since the company announced the price drop during its Glowtime event on Monday, other models including the iPhone SE 3, 14, 14 Plus, 15 and 15 Plus have all seen their prices drop by $100.
Apple has priced the iPhone 14 at $599, the 14 Plus and 15 at $699, and the 15 Plus will sell for $799.
This is compared to the new iPhone 16, which ranges in price from $799 to $1,199 for the 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 will offer improvements such as Apple Intelligencean action button, camera updates and other features that could wipe all previous models off the buyer’s radar.
