Apple goes WOKE with new option to add pronouns to your iPhone contacts – as users joke ‘Steve Jobs would die again if he saw this’
iPhone users are outraged by Apple’s latest ‘woke’ update, which adds pronouns to contacts.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Apple sparked outrage by sharing a guide explaining how to add They/Them pronouns.
The update, which is part of iOS 17, adds a special field for pronouns in the Contacts app.
Social media is outraged, calling the feature “unnecessary” and a “waste of an update.”
Some commentators complained that Apple was waking up, with one writing that “Steve Jobs would die again if he saw this.”

Social media users reacted angrily to the post, complaining that Apple had become too woke by allowing users to add pronouns to contacts

Apple then shared a step-by-step guide, including an example of adding they/them pronouns to a contact’s information.
Commenters on X were outraged by the post, calling the post overly woke.
“Apple woke up, you like it,” one commenter joked, while another wrote, “Apple got too ‘woke’ to ‘wake up’.”
X users were furious with Apple, calling the company “woke” for its decision to promote this change
Some commenters went even further, saying they wouldn’t accept calls from anyone using the new feature.
One commenter wrote, “As soon as I see someone mention their pronouns in their bio, that’s a no from me.”
Meanwhile, another added that the feature “makes it easy to decide who to reject calls from, to be honest.”
However, there seemed to be some confusion on this point, as the update allows users to add pronouns to other people’s contacts instead of their own.
There is an option for users to add pronouns to their own contact cards, but sharing of this information is disabled by default.
This means that a caller’s pronouns will only be displayed if the user has chosen to add them.
Some commenters went even further, claiming they wouldn’t answer calls from anyone who had pronouns in their contact information
But according to many commenters on X, this change was the last straw and they are now considering moving away from Apple products.
‘Why is Apple pushing this, we have to get rid of Apple. I don’t have friends with pronouns,” one irate social media user wrote.
Another even joked, “Who wants to buy my iPhone 14?”
This isn’t the first time Apple has caused a stir for including “wake” features in its updates.

Last year, users were left furious after the company added a clean energy charging option that slows charging when renewable energy isn’t available.
The feature was part of a series of updates to Apple’s Contacts app.
The biggest change was the creation of the NameDrop feature, which added the ability to quickly share contact information with other iPhone users.
If the user wants, he/she can add his/her pronouns to his/her contact card and share it with others.
The addition of the pronoun feature is also intended to improve the performance of bilingual apps.
Users can choose to add their pronouns in multiple languages to ensure apps use correct grammar when displaying other languages.
