Apple ‘Glowtime’ event – live coverage ahead of iPhone 16 launch, plus AirPods, Apple Watch and more

Another rumor that caught my attention and made my stomach turn a little is the rumor that the iPhone 16 Pro will come in a so-called ‘Desert Titanium’ color.

This shade appears to sit somewhere between gold and bronze. However, while true bronze can develop a patina over time, becoming nicely soft in my opinion, that won’t happen on a titanium chassis. In my experience with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the titanium on the phone doesn’t scratch, let alone stain, and ages the same way the steel on the rather nice iPhone 13 Pro did.

So I’m not convinced that “Desert Titanium” is the color iPhone fans have been waiting for. But I’m willing to be proven wrong, if this rumor does come true.

I find that the camera quality of the models on our best phones list is so high (at least for smartphones) that there isn’t much to differentiate between the top models, other than a preference for certain photography styles.

Video recording, however, could be the next frontier where phones can truly compete against each other. And Apple has long been ahead of the curve, so it’s promising to see the Cupertino crew embrace 4K video recording at 60 fps to bring the next-generation Pro iPhones in line with the on-paper capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra but add some Apple video processing magic.

So let’s start with the latest leaks or rumors. And they come in the form of a storage increase and improved video recording that are tipped for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

That comes from analysts over at TrendForce, who have claimed that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will start with 256GB of storage this year. That would be an improvement for the smaller phone, and a change I’d certainly welcome; after all, the iPhone 15 Pro starts with 128GB of storage, which seems a bit stingy for a phone of this price.

As for the video recording, 9to5Mac ‘s sources claim that the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be able to capture footage in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. That’s a boost from the 60 frames per second on the current models, so for content creators, such capability could be a worthy upgrade.
