Apple announces a surprise event next week – and the ‘Scary Fast’ tagline suggests it could be launching a HUGE new product
- As of 4:59 PM PT on Halloween night, the event has sparked widespread speculation
- Some are suggesting that a line of Macs with a new M3 chip could be on the way
Apple announced a surprise event on Halloween Eve – and the tagline ‘Scary Fast’ suggest there may be more of a treat than a trick for tech fans.
Kicking off on October 30 at 4:59 PM PT (11:59 PM UK time), the event is scheduled much later than most Apple events and, unusually, is also completely virtual.
Very few details are given about the event beyond the tagline, but the tech giant is expected to unveil a product related to its signature Mac computer line.
The only clue is the Apple logo on the company’s events page, which turns into the icon for the Mac operating system’s ‘Finder’ icon.
This has led to widespread speculation about what Apple has in store for this spooky event, with suggestions ranging from new processing chips to a new line of iPads.
Apple has kept quiet about what this surprise Halloween event has in store, but the ‘Scary Fast’ tagline might suggest something big
The only clue to what might be happening is that the Apple logo on the company page turns into a version of the Mac operating system’s ‘Finder’ icon
Based on the tagline and finder icon, some have suggested that Apple is preparing to unveil its highly anticipated M3 chip.
Most current MacBooks use Apple’s M2 chip, while the latest M2 models arrived last summer with the update to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
Some have also suggested that the high-end and expensive 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro could be in line for an upgrade.
When these more advanced models get new chips, it will only be eleven months since their previous upgrades.
Meanwhile, the iMac, Apple’s desktop computer, still uses the older M1 chip and has not been updated in two years.
Many have speculated that this release could see the iMac at least upgraded to an M2 model.
Veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that a new range of MacBook Pros with an updated M3 chip will be launched at the event
The addition of the Mac Finder icon has left many commentators in no doubt that a new line of Mac computers will be released on Halloween.
Veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts this event will see the release of the M3 series of MacBook Pro, despite previously suggesting the release was unlikely until 2024.
Additionally, tech writer Mark Gurnman suggested that the iMac and all three MacBook Pro sizes showed longer than normal delivery times on Apple’s website – a common sign that a product refresh is approaching.
However, as of today, MailOnline has confirmed that delivery times in the UK are now at the normal speed of two working days.
While a Mac-related launch is the most common theory, there are suggestions that a new iPad may also be on the release schedule.
Earlier this month, a rumor circulated that a new range of tablets would be launched at an upcoming release date.
However, only a new Apple Pencil was announced on that day, leading some to speculate that the iPad’s release may have been delayed due to the Halloween event.
This comes after the less-than-smooth launch of the new iPhone 15 range, with issues plaguing the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models.
Most importantly, some users reported that their phones reached temperatures of up to 48 degrees during normal use.
The problem was so serious that Apple was forced to release a software update to fix a bug that was supposedly causing the overheating.
The new iPhones also experienced discoloration from the new titanium frame and in some cases appeared to crack easily in users’ hands.
One review on YouTube seemed to show the iPhone 15 Pro Max bending and clicking with just a small amount of pressure.
More recently, several users on social media reported that their new phones were showing signs of severe ‘screen burn’, leaving ghostly images on the screen.
