Appalachian State player attacks teammate with his helmet in practice

Two Appalachian State players got into an altercation at practice this week… one of them ripped off his teammate’s helmet and then beat him with it while the altercation was filmed.

Viral footage shared on X on Tuesday shows the moment a pass rusher wearing a black jersey with the Mountaineers’ number 12 jersey gets into an altercation with a blocker wearing a white jersey with the number 73 jersey during an 11-on-11 game.

At the start of the fight, the duo goes back and forth, but the man in the black shirt goes one step further and grabs his teammate’s face mask.

He pulls so hard that he tears it completely off the man in white.

The defensive player then attempts to hit his opponent’s head with the helmet.

In a statement obtained by TMZ SportThe school would not name the attacker, but did say the player would face internal disciplinary action.

“This behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within the App State football program,” head coach Shawn Clark told the outlet.

The incident will remind NFL fans of an on-field altercation between Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns and Mason Rudolph of the Pittsburgh Steelers in November 2019.

This week’s competition at the Mountaineers’ practice follows a strong 2023 season for the program.

Appalachian State finished with a 9-5 record and finished second in the Sunbelt East Division standings.

Additionally, the Mountaineers won their postseason bowl game against the Miami (OH) Redhawks 13-9.
