Apalachee High School shooting: Suspect in custody after opening fire on Barrow County campus in Georgia

• The FBI Atlanta office said: “FBI Atlanta is aware of the current situation at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. Our agents are on scene working with and supporting local law enforcement.”
• The Georgia State Police and the Burrow County Sheriff’s Office are also among the law enforcement agencies on site

• Several media outlets have reported that one suspect has been arrested after the lockdown at the high school
• The sheriff’s office reported, “One suspect was in custody at the time of this release. Victims have also been reported, but details on the number of victims and their conditions are not available at this time.”
• The school district has told parents they can pick up their children

• The Burrow County Sheriff’s Office told CNN there were casualties in the shooting
• They have yet to specify how many people were injured and whether any students were involved

• Apalachee High School is one of two high schools in the district
• There are approximately 1,900 students in grades 9 through 12.

• At least one person was loaded onto a stretcher in a medical helicopter and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
• Grady Memorial is the largest hospital in North Georgia

Heavily armed police entered the school as students were evacuated to the football stadium.

Governor Brian Kemp has responded to the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder in Barrow County, 25 miles west of Athens.

Police have confirmed they are looking for an active shooter.
