Australians will remember the sacrifice of the armed forces through Anzac Day Dawn Services and marches across the country.
In addition to the commemorations, many states and territories are also introducing special rules about whether stores can open on April 25.
Most shops have reduced opening hours or are closed altogether, but as a general rule of thumb if a shop opens on the Anzac Day holiday, it should be after 1pm.
Here’s your state-by-state definitive guide to when — and if — your local Bunnings, Kmart, BIG W, Target, Westfield, and Best&Less stores are open.
What is open on Anzac Day?
NSW
In NSW, Anzac Day is a restricted trading day, similar to Christmas and Good Friday, with only certain businesses allowed to open before 1pm on April 25.
Many states and territories are also introducing special rules about whether stores can open on April 25.
Pharmacies, supermarkets, petrol stations and fruit and vegetable shops are excluded from the rules and allowed to open in the morning, but some shops may choose to remain closed out of respect.
Businesses with a hotel or small bar license are allowed to open.
Coles, Woolworths and Bunnings are open from 1pm.
Westfield opens from 1.30pm with shorter trading hours. Stores like Kmart and Big W open their doors at the same time, while Target also opens at 1 p.m.
Most Dan Murphy’s, BWS and Liquorland stores start trading after 1pm.
Most Best&Less stores are open except Central Bathurst, Dubbo, Merimbula, Mudgee, Nowra, Orange, Ulladulla, Cessnock, Gosford, Gunnedah, Inverell, Raymond Terrace, Tamworth, Taree, Toronto, Salamander Bay, Grafton, Lismore, Moonee Beach and Tormina.
Some small businesses such as bakeries, pet shops and news agencies are also exempt, but again may choose not to open on Anzac Day.
VICTORIA
Victoria has similar rules to NSW about what may be opened on Anzac Day.
Pharmacies, supermarkets, petrol stations, restaurants, cafes and takeaways are exempt from trade restrictions and are allowed to open, but times may vary.
Movie theaters and other entertainment, such as concerts or plays, are not allowed to open before 1 p.m.
Coles, Woolworths, Kmart and Bunnings are open from 1pm but may close earlier than usual.
All Target stores are open from 1pm on Anzac Day except Werribee. While all Best&Less stores are open, except Corio and Mildura
Most Dan Murphy’s, BWS and Liquorland stores start trading after 1pm.
Those looking to DIY on the Anzac holiday can find open Bunnings stores (pictured) in NSW, Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. However, Bunnings stores in Queensland remain closed on Anzac Day
QUEENSLAND
Queensland considers the whole of Anzac Day a public holiday, so most businesses must remain closed.
Exempt fruit and vegetable shops, newsagents, pharmacies, petrol stations, bakers and butchers, but many of these will close on Anzac Day.
Licensed properties are allowed to open but are subject to different trading hours, so it’s best to check what time your local will open.
All Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Target, Best&Less and Bunnings stores will be closed throughout Anzac Day.
Many bottle shops are closed all day, but some may be open, so check with your local store.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
South Australia also celebrates Anzac Day, with many shops forced to close for the day, with few exceptions.
Petrol stations, pharmacies, tobacconists, cafes, restaurants and takeaways are exempt from closure.
Rundle Mall and some regional Woolworths stores are open, while most Coles are closed except Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbour.
Most Kmart stores are also closed except Mount Gambier, Mount Barker, Port Lincoln, Victor Harbour, Murray Bridge, Port PirieRundle Mall, Whyalla, Berri, Port Augusta and Kadina which open from 1pm.
All Bunnings stores are open from 12pm, while all Target stores are closed except Centrepoint, which is open from 1pm to 6pm.
All Westfields and Best&Less stores are closed throughout Anzac Day.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Under Western Australian rules, businesses must be closed on Anzac Day unless they have a certificate stating they are a small or specialty shop.
These stores are considered essential for emergency, convenience or recreational goods and include stores such as pharmacies, newsagents and art stores.
Most Coles and Woolworths stores will be closed, with the exception of some in Orana, Albany and other areas.
Bunnings shops are open from 12 noon, except Bunbury & Armadale which remain closed all day.
Most Kmart stores are closed, except for South Hedland, Karratha, Broome, Albany, Eaton Fair and Busselton, which open at 1 p.m.
Westfields, Big W, Target and Best&Less are closed all day.
NORTHERN TERRITORY
All Woolworths stores are open on Anzac Day, while Coles stores open after 12pm with reduced hours.
The vast majority of Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores across the country open at 1:00 PM or 1:15 PM and close between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Check the hours of your local store to be sure.
All Big W stores will be open on the holiday but will have reduced hours, while Kmart stores will open at 1 p.m. and close at 6 p.m.
If you want to do odd jobs on the holiday, all Bunnings stores will be open from 1pm.
However, on Anzac Day, all Best&Less stores are closed.

TASMANIA
Woolworths and Coles stores open from 12.30pm on Anzac Day.
Most Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores across the country open at 1:00 PM or 1:15 PM and close between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Check the hours of your local store to be sure.
Big W and Best&Less stores are both open, but with reduced hours. Shoppers are advised to check the opening hours of their local stores.
Kmart stores open at 1 p.m., Newtown and Launceston stores open earlier at 12:30 p.m., while all Target stores open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
All Bunnings stores open from 12:30pm but have reduced training hours, with stores closing at 6pm.
