ANZ outrage after major banks ditch cash at several branches, no longer accepting coin deposits and placing a limit on banknotes

ANZ has announced that staff at several branches will no longer handle cash, a move that has angered customers.

Australians banking at the major bank claimed they were unable to make deposits or withdrawals of $5 coins and notes at some branches.

One customer claimed that his local bank no longer accepted coins through ATMs and has since placed a limit on the number of notes that can be deposited.

The ANZ customer, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was told his local branch was no longer dealing in $5 notes or coins.

They were advised to go to another branch to get the $1 and $2 coins they needed.

“As a nonprofit, we take our receipts and deposit them into our account every month – and we get a lot of $5 bills,” the customer said. news.com.au.

'Let's hope that other banks will not follow this example.'

An ANZ spokesperson said that at 'full service branches and business cash hubs we accept deposits and make withdrawals of all Australian denominations of coins and banknotes', but that 'at some of our branches our staff no longer handles cash'.

More to come.
