Anyone at home? Moment on-the-run Emu called Rodney wanders up to front door after escaping from his home in Kent village
- A curious creature walked into a neighbor’s driveway and stood on a welcome mat
A pet emu went on the run after escaping from his home in a village called Loose.
The emu, named Rodney, went sniffing around a neighbor’s driveway and even walked up to their front door, only to be captured on doorbell footage.
Police were alerted to the bird’s escape in the village of Kent, near Maidstone, at around midday on Saturday.
Maureen Roberts, 81, said she received a doorbell notification that someone was at the door while she was having lunch with her daughter.
Her neighbor then called to say that an escaped emu had walked up to the doorway.

Another video showed two men and a boy chasing the bird as it walked up the driveway
They then grabbed the animal and escorted it off the property
She said: ‘I thought she was making fun of me and I laughed it off.
“But it turns out she wasn’t joking!
‘I couldn’t believe it when I saw it on camera. It reached the front door.
‘My dog was sitting in the front room at home at the time. I don’t know what he would have thought if he saw such a gigantic bird.’
Video footage showed the curious creature entering the porch before standing on the welcome mat and bumping into a plant several times.
Police eventually caught the emu and brought it back home
Another video showed two men and a boy chasing the bird as it walked up the driveway and grabbed it before it reached the door before escorting it out of the property.
The animal was spotted by police and captured before being returned to its home.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: ‘At around 1.10pm officers on patrol in Maidstone helped return an emu that had escaped from a residential home in the Loose area.’
