Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she and her husband were ‘quite spy-oriented’ when they planned their secret wedding.
The 27-year-old Queen’s Gambit actress revealed earlier this month that she and Malcolm McRae tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in New Orleans in April 2022, and not in October 2023 in Venice as was believed.
And she now admits the occasion was made even more ‘special’ because they kept it to themselves.
The star – who wore a sexy black dress to CinemaCon on Tuesday night – told Entertainment Tonight: ‘We did our research, we were quite spy-oriented.
“But honestly, it made it all the more special because it felt like a secret we had to keep to ourselves.”

The Queen’s Gambit actress, 27, revealed earlier this month that she and Malcolm McRae tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in New Orleans in April 2022, and not in October 2023 in Venice as was believed.
The star had a ‘magical’ wedding day, with her and Malcolm exchanging vows in front of their ‘two best friends’, but they were happy to celebrate their nuptials with wider friends and family at a later date.
She said: ‘At the end of the day it was about the two of us and so we ran away with our two best friends and had the most magical day possible.
“But I was also very grateful that we could celebrate it with our family a few months later.”
Anya revealed her secret marriage in an Instagram post celebrating her second wedding anniversary to the 29-year-old musician on April 2.
She wrote, “Two years ago, on April Fools’ Day, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is forever ingrained in every cell of my being.
“Happy second (first) birthday my love…you are the coolest.”
The Golden Globe-winning star shared her message alongside a series of images from the big day, revealing via her photo credit that Cara Delevingne attended the nuptials.
Commenting on a photo of her heart cakes, she concluded her post with the following: ‘NB: yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat. [camera emoji] @caradelevingne + @sebastianfaena, beautifully embroidered with our love story from @dior.’

Malcolm also shared his own tribute on social media after the announcement was made.
He wrote, “I love you now and somehow I always have and somehow it will never end. Happy two year anniversary (yesterday), beautiful.”
It was previously reported that the couple exchanged their vows at a lavish ceremony in Venice, Italy, and photos from the time show the Dune: Part Two actress in the same Dior dress shared in her social media post, but she had always referred to her husband until now as her ‘partner’.
Anya has rarely spoken about her relationship with Malcolm since they started dating after they were first spotted together in New York.
They have managed to maintain a healthy relationship despite living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, with Anya living mostly in London while Malcolm, who also performs in both a band and a band, lives in the US.
