The actress, who rose to prominence for her role in horror film The Witch in 2015, spoke to W Magazine the following year to discuss her newfound fame.

The first question Anya was asked by the publication read, “You have those beautiful eyes and they are so far apart.

“Did they make you self-conscious as a child?”

And in response, Anya exposed her insecurities about her features.

She said, “I definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I was never aware my eyes were wide apart and when someone tagged me in a picture with a fish and they were like, ‘This is you because you eyes are like here.”

“I was really angry about it and I didn’t like it.”

The Queen’s Gambit star added that she hadn’t been able to look at herself in the mirror for a “very long time” after that.

Anya continued, “I still don’t really spend much time in front of mirrors because I don’t really deal with my face. Alas, all of you.’

Fortunately, however, she also told the interviewer that she had “grown into herself” and learned to become “a little less clumsy.”

The interview resurfaced on social media this weekend, sparking furious fans rushing to defend the actress.

One of them wrote, “I see this story emerging that Anya Taylor-Joy is somehow an “unconventional” or “irregular” kind of attractive, which really packs a punch to society’s already unrealistic standards of beauty .’

Another added: “This is heartbreaking. It’s simply because she looks ethereal, and not like the cookie-cutter influencer/Kardashian image that’s absolutely friggen all over the place.

“Every time I see her on screen I am just hypnotized and mesmerized by her beauty. She’s my #1 girl crush until the day I die.”

And a third said, ‘She’s literally one of the prettiest ever! It’s so sad that a few ugly, miserable losers on the internet can ruin someone’s self-esteem like that.”
