Antonio Cassano has launched a scathing assessment of Jose Mourinho’s coaching abilities amid reports the Roma boss could make a sensational return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Italian striker claimed Mourinho would not be appointed by the club if they ‘want a coach’, and labeled the Portuguese manager as ‘just cinema’.
Carlo Ancelotti, the current boss of Los Blancos, is under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season, when Mourinho’s deal in the Italian capital also expires.
But the Italian faces an uncertain future, with ties to several sides, including the Brazil national team.
As such, Mourinho has been touted as a potential successor, with a return to Los Blancs seeing current Real Under-18 coach Alvaro Arbeloa potentially promoted to his No.

However, Cassano remains against the idea of the Portuguese coach entering a second period, tellingly Bobo TV“He can return to Real Madrid if Ancelotti falls through, but if Los Blancos want a coach, they will not call Mourinho for their new project.
“Mou doesn’t care about football. He doesn’t like to work, he can’t communicate or speak, let’s not be fooled by his story.’
“I don’t know how he gets those results, because it’s just cinema. He was a great coach, but at the moment he can train Real Madrid, as he can train San Martines.’
In his three-year spell at the Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho won just three trophies in a period when Pep Guardiola’s Lionel Messi-led Barcelona dominated Spanish football.
However, since joining Roma in 2021, he has guided them to a Europa Conference League title, becoming the first ever manager to win a major European competition with four different clubs.
But this is not the first time the Italian has singled out Mourinho for criticism, having previously launched an attack on his coaching abilities after Roma were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Cremonese in February.
He also praised the Portuguese boss’s ability to communicate with his side, despite claiming later in April that he “doesn’t know how to communicate or speak.”
“Mourinho has never been a great coach, he just knew how to play the media and was a great communicator,” Cassano told Christian Vieiri’s BoboTV podcast.

“He can deal well with strong players, not with players who are not so good. It’s too easy to just be friends with great players.’
He added: “It’s just disaster upon disaster at Roma, he made them spend money on Nemanja Matic and Rui Patricio, it was his decisions.
“Recently, that performance made me puke. He doesn’t know how to put together a team. Even with your second-rate selection you have to beat Cremonese.’
Cassano was signed by Real from Roma in January 2006, but was loaned to Sampdoria just a year later before leaving permanently for the Italian club in 2008.
