Antoine Griezmann returns to Atlético Madrid with a permanent contract from Barcelona.
The attacker had joined the club on loan from the Catalan side last year, but has recently been limited to a 30-minute cameo from the bench due to a clause stating that, if they met, the Madrid club would pay Barcelona a £££ fee. must pay. 35m fee to make the move permanent.
But the deal is now closed, with Madrid announcing that the 31-year-old has put a deal on paper until 2026, with a deal worth up to £17million agreed between the two clubs.
Antoine Griezmann has finally completed a permanent move to Atletico Madrid
The most important loan agreement in the deal was related to his minutes. For the move to automatically become permanent, Griezmann would have to play 45 minutes or more in 80 percent of the games he was available for over the two-year period.
Having played 45 minutes in more than 80 per cent of matches last season, a situation seems to have developed this season where Diego Simeone and the club were reluctant to pay Barcelona a full £35m fee and have Griezmann as such. held back until at least the 60th minute.
When asked about the situation in September, Simeone replied that he was primarily a “club man.”
Despite leaving Atlético Madrid for Barcelona in 2019 in a quest for more consistent success, Griezmann would only want the definitive return to the club he originally joined in 2014 after the relative failure of his time in Catalonia.
The Frenchman, who has reportedly wanted to see an end to this season’s fiasco, partly due to the World Cup in November, is Atlético Madrid’s fourth highest goalscorer ever with 144 goals in all competitions.
He scored 35 goals for Barcelona after joining the club for £107 million in 2019.
