Antiques Roadshow guest stunned to discover the value of an old cigar found in her attic which was owned by a VERY famous person
An Antiques Roadshow guest was stunned to learn the true value of an old cigar her grandchildren found in the attic.
Sunday’s show saw members of the public take their beloved belongings to London’s Crystal Palace, with one woman bringing an array of WWII memorabilia.
She gave expert Mark Smith medals which had once belonged to her late French father-in-law, however they lacked a certificate and was disappointed to discover they were only worth £120.
The lady had also brought an old cigar in a cardboard tube saying: “As you can see it is addressed to Morris (her father-in-law) by Mr. Churchill.”
Among the boxes, her grandchildren had also discovered a newspaper clipping about former Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s meeting with French soldiers, where Mark read: “Churchill called for champagne and gave each member of the delegation one of his famous cigars.”

Smoking hot! Sunday’s show saw audiences take their beloved belongings to London’s Crystal Palace, with one woman bringing back a host of WWII memorabilia
Close but no cigar: She gifted pundit Mark Smith with medals that once belonged to her late French father-in-law, however they lacked a certificate and was disappointed to discover they were worth just £120
The surprised memorabilia enthusiast said: ‘You actually have one of (Churchill’s) cigars, isn’t that fantastic!’
Before giving the item an estimate of £2,000, leaving its stunned owner asking: ‘No, really?’
Mark said: ‘(Churchill’s) cigars are so iconic and people just want to have one.’
Winston Churchill (1874-1965) was twice British Prime Minister and led the nation during World War II and became synonymous with cigar smoking.
He once said: ‘I drink too much. I sleep little and smoke cigar after cigar. That’s why I’m in two hundred percent shape’.
It comes after another Antiques Roadshow guest was shocked to learn the value of some jewelery she bought for just a few pounds at a car boot sale.
The woman brought a number of items to Alexandra Gardens in Cardiff to be inspected by expert Joanna Hardy.
Joanna said to the guest, “Most people I meet, when they buy jewelry, they usually go to a jewelry store, antique stores, auctions, but most if this collection came?”, to which the guest replied, “A car boot.’
Amazing find: Among the boxes the grandchildren had also found a newspaper clipping about former Prime Minister Winston Churchill meeting French soldiers, where Mark read: “Churchill called for champagne and gave each member of the delegation one of his famous cigars.”

On the table were a number of gold and silver brooches and a gold necklace with green stones set in it.
When asked what drew her to the necklace, the guest explained: “Someone had just put it down, the sun was shining and it just came towards me.”
She went on to say she hoped the green stones were emeralds before revealing she had bought the jewelery for £3.50.
Joanna said: ‘Well, £3.50 is a 22 carat gold chain with emeralds, you were right.’
Moving on to a circular gold brooch with a brilliant stone in the middle, which the guest had paid £2 for, Joanna said: ‘Well that’s an 18 carat gold diamond.’
Pointing to another pin, Joanna asked him how much he had paid for the item, to which the guest said, “Two or three pounds.”
Joana said: ‘You have three diamonds there and they are in 18 carat gold.’
Another brooch, which was set with sapphires and diamonds and made around 1900-1915, was bought by the guest for just £1.

Big money: The circular gold brooch with the diamond in the center was valued at around £1,000 at the show
Xhoana quickly moved on to evaluating the parts, saying to the guest: “Well done”.
She said the gold necklace with green emerald stones bought for £3.50 was worth around £800, while the 18 carat gold brooch with three diamonds was worth around £800-1,200.
Meanwhile, the circular gold brooch with the diamond in the center was valued at around £1,000.
Joanna then went on to discuss the sapphire and diamond brooch, explaining that the blue flowers were actually shirts that someone had used to create the brooch. She valued the item at £3,000-£4,000.
The guest shouted: ‘What? Good grief!”, before continuing: “I knew they were worth something, but you know, this amount really blew me away. I’ll still be there every week, looking for something new and for something unusual.’
