An Antiques Roadshow guest was left stunned and shocked to discover that a bowl that had been sitting in her parents’ attic for 20 years was actually worth around £10,000.

She met expert Duncan Campbell during an episode of the BBC programme filmed at Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton.

The woman brought along a gold-colored grape bowl that had been in the family for decades but had been left to gather dust.

She explains: ‘It’s been in my parents’ attic for about 20 years, it’s not used for anything and we haven’t cleaned it.

“I only know it was my parents’ and then my grandparents’. We know very little about it. I think it’s Russian, but I’m not sure.”

After a thorough inspection, the expert noted, “Well, it’s a very simple dish. You have a shell, a large scallop, and a lovely little cherub on the front with angel wings, which looks beautiful.

“You’re right, it’s Russian. The interesting thing about it is that it’s made by a pretty good Russian maker.”

He turned the bowl over so that the bottom was visible. He pointed to a mark and added, ‘Below is the mark of Fabergé.

‘You wouldn’t immediately associate a dish like this with Fabergé, would you?

“But in reality it was made by Fabergé and the quality is fantastic.”

Duncan said it was made sometime between 1910 and 1915, just before the Russian Revolution.

To build the suspense, he continued: ‘You often associate Fabergé with small jewels, but they also had a whole range of silverware coming out of their workshop, including your beautiful scallop bowl.

‘The cherub is beautifully cast and although it is not clean at the moment, I think if you were to clean it you would really notice that the detail is really beautiful. It is a very pretty bowl.

‘It was in the attic, out of sight, out of mind, and was not used for anything.

‘It might be interesting to know that if you were to offer this for sale, it should fetch somewhere between £8,000 and £10,000.’

She couldn’t stop shaking her head and said excitedly, “No, I never thought, oh my god. That really shocked me. I can’t believe it, up there in the loft.”

“Among all those spiders and dust,” the expert joked as the segment came to an end.
