Protesters beating drums and ringing cowbells stood outside President Joe Biden’s hotel in Dallas on Thursday morning, calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East.

“If we don’t get justice, you can’t sleep,” the crowd of about 20 people shouted repeatedly.

They gathered outside the Fairmont Hotel around 6am. Biden, who is not a morning person, usually wakes up around 7am.

Another group of protesters waited for the president at his fundraiser in Houston and stood outside in the pouring rain to demand a “truce” and “free Palestine.”

Pro-Palestinian supporters have been following the president since the war in the Middle East began following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 6. They call the president ‘Genocide Joe’.

In some Democratic primaries, voters are casting their votes for “no candidate” or some other alternative to register their protest in line with Biden’s policies.

In Texas, Biden suffered a double blow on Thursday when he was in the Lone Star State to raise money for his re-election campaign.

The latest round came as Israeli forces planned a ground invasion of Rafah and the US submitted a resolution to the United Nations calling for an immediate ceasefire.

As he left Dallas, protesters positioned themselves so that Biden’s motorcade passed right by them on the way to the Dallas airport.

They waved signs calling for a ceasefire and saying “in November we will remember.”

The president traveled to Houston for a fundraiser with trial lawyers in the wealthy suburb of River Oaks.

As his motorcade approached the private home, protesters a block away on the street beat drums and shouted as rain poured down on them.

Biden has been a strong supporter of Israel in its fight against Hamas, but has recently been under enormous pressure both at home and abroad to broker a ceasefire.

The president has called for a temporary measure to free hostages and provide much-needed food and medical aid to the people of Gaza, who are facing famine.

“The conversations are ongoing,” White House spokesman John Kirby said Wednesday of the peace talks. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is in Cairo to keep talks going.
