Manchester United striker Anthony Martial left training after four minutes on Thursday morning.

The Frenchman arrived at the club’s Carrington base at 8.55am in his Mercedes G Wagon, but drove away shortly afterwards at 8.59am.

It appears Martial could have mixed up his times with United’s players due to training on Thursday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag prepares his players for Saturday’s return to the Premier League against Brighton at Old Trafford.

Martial, 27, has started United’s last two games – the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest and the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal before the international break.

In the match against Arsenal, Martial was substituted for new £72m signing Rasmus Hojlund, who is expected to take his place as striker when fully fit.

Manchester United have been contacted for comment.

Ten Hag’s team must start winning again after their second defeat in four games at the Emirates Stadium.

Even their wins over Wolves and Forest were deeply unconvincing as Ten Hag look to maintain the positive momentum from last season.

Martial was a player United wanted to listen to this summer, but he remains in the final year of his contract at the club.

He is expected to play second fiddle to expensive newcomer Hojlund, but given the sheer number of games ahead of him, Martial should still see plenty of opportunities. Martial scored nine goals in 29 games last season.

It comes amid increasing off-field problems for Ten Hag, which have depleted his attacking options.

Brazilian winger Antony has been placed on paid leave while he defends himself against allegations of assault by three women.

The manager also clashed with Jadon Sancho after the England international hit back at Ten Hag’s suggestion that he had not reached a sufficient level in training ahead of the match against Arsenal.

Sancho claimed in a statement on social media that he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ with his future at Old Trafford at stake.

As Mail Sport reported, United football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold are at the center of ongoing talks between Sancho and Ten Hag to try to resolve the dispute.

The discussions took place at the start of the week after Sancho returned to training after United’s non-international players were given a week off.

Sancho deleted the social media post dismissing Ten Hag’s claims that he was not training properly.

That was seen as the first step towards a solution, but it remains to be seen whether Sancho is involved in Saturday’s match selection against Brighton.

United start their Champions League campaign next week with a visit to Bayern Munich.
