Anthony Joshua decided not to take part in the open training ahead of his Day of Reckoning clash on Wednesday and instead decided to invite several kids from the local boxing club to hit the pads.

Fans had hoped to catch a glimpse of the British heavyweight ahead of his mega-money fight with Otto Wallin on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

However, the two-time world heavyweight champion entered the ring, threw a few punches and then looked at the youngster from the corner.

Joshua explained to DAZN: “I've been here (Saudi Arabia) a few times now and I understand the vision. It promotes boxing for the next generation and it clearly helps.

“It just gives them a chance, an opportunity, I think it will mean the world to them. They are the next generation.

'I didn't really feel like training today, with all due respect, so this was the next best thing. I just came from the gym.”

Swedish contender Wallin also provided a surprise during the session in the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

Leading up to this fight, a lot has been made of the fact that AJ will be facing another southpaw after his loss to southpaw Oleksandr Usyk.

However, Wallin decided to shadowbox from an orthodox stance instead, but it seems unlikely he will fight this way on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Joshua is embracing the pressure he is under and aims to make it three wins in his £75million fight against the Swede.

'Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Heavy is the head that wants the crown, and I want it. This is my calling,” he told Mail Sport.

“This is something I've dedicated my life to since I was 18 years old.

'I need the pressure. This position I'm in is no joke. It's serious. I understand what I am here and what I do. I understand the pressure that comes with that.

'I want to continue pursuing my goals and the goals of people within the sport. It's just my way of showing that I honor them. So keep the pressure on me and I will continue to make sure I get better.”

Joshua has returned to winning ways by defeating Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius after losing his WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles to Ukrainian superstar Oleksandr Usyk.

And Joshua insisted he was unwilling to make any cuts in his bid to return to the top of the boxing world.

“My team knows I push hard, but nothing happens overnight. It takes time,” he explained.

'It will take time to reach the next level, but it is something I am working hard on. Even speaking about it now and saying it's something I'm working towards just proves that I mean it.

“I'm a doer, so I'm going to do it.”
