Anthony Gordon rubs salt in Arsenal wounds as he recreates Thierry Henry’s iconic corner flag celebration after scoring in Newcastle’s 2-0 triumph at the Emirates

Anthony Gordon set tongues wagging during Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on Tuesday night as he recreated Thierry Henry’s iconic celebration.

Eddie Howe’s side shocked the Gunners in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at the Emirates thanks to goals from the in-form Alexander Isak and Gordon.

However, it was only after the winger’s goal that fans noticed what the Newcastle star had done.

It came as he headed home after being the first to react after David Raya saved an Isak shot in the 51st minute.

After seeing his shot hit the back of the net, Gordon ran down the touchline to celebrate in front of the jubilant traveling supporters.

With the fans on their sides with a 2-0 lead, Gordon rested one arm on his hip and the other on the corner flag.

It brought back memories of the celebration organized by Arsenal and France legend Henry during his time in the match.

Henry scored 226 goals during eight years with the Gunners and was associated with the transfer whenever he scored for the north London team and also for France.

And fans were quick to comment on Gordon’s celebration as they shared their thoughts on social media.

One said: ‘Anthony Gordon was extremely cold about canceling the Thierry Henry party in the Emirates.’

Another added: “The Emirates have fallen,” before another fan said: “That was so cool.”

Howe was full of praise for his side after the match, saying: “I’m really happy for the players because it was a tough game for us in many different ways.

‘We’ve had an intense period of games with pretty much the same group of players and I’m really happy with the way we defended.

‘We had a bit of luck at times and I think our goalkeeper played very well. Overall, I think we got the little details right and I’m very pleased with the result.”
