Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had identified Gordon as his main January target and the club’s owners are now about to get their man.
Gordon failed to report to Everton training on Wednesday and Thursday as he tried to speed up his departure.
There were concerns that the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa as manager at Goodison Park could stall the deal, as he wanted rhythm in his team. However, when the Bielsa move collapsed and Sean Dyche emerged as Everton’s choice, Gordon’s transfer was allowed to proceed.
The 21-year-old missed Everton training for two days to speed up the move.

Newcastle had inquired about him in the summer but were put off by a £60m asking price. Those demands were upheld earlier this week, as sports mail reported on Tuesday.
However, there was always confidence that a compromise would be reached given Gordon’s desire to leave his boyhood club. He could now make his Newcastle debut at home to West Ham next Saturday.
Gordon’s impending move comes after he forced a move to St James’ Park, telling the club he had no intention of training at Finch Farm again and missing a total of three days, the first of which was planned.
