Anthony Albanese reveals why he cries ‘all the time’ and the unique message that sparked his romance with Jodie Haydon

Anthony Albanese isn’t afraid to say he’s in touch with his emotions, revealing he cries “all the time” and what it’s like to be attacked for doing your job.

The Prime Minister spoke about his emotional state during a wide-ranging appearance on Jess Rowe’s Big Talk Show on Wednesday morning.

‘Oh, uh, I cry all the time. I’m a very emotional person,” Mr. Albanese told the podcast host.

“I grew up…just me and mom. My mother was also a very emotional person, she had a much more difficult life than mine.

“And so, I’m moved by things, I care about the issues, I think what we’re doing is important.”

Mr Albanese referred to the upcoming Voice referendum on October 14 and the opportunity to “make a difference” as having a major impact on his life.

Mr Albanese said that overall he was a pretty happy person, but found the attacks he received from time to time “difficult”.

“Some of the personal attacks that come up, it’s like, ‘Oh, come on, really?'” he said.

“We were talking… about my itinerary for the last week, which was, you know, Canberra to Jakarta, Manila to Delhi, back to Canberra at Question Time.

“And then people will say, ‘Ahh, flying, luxury,’ and it’s like, ‘Ahh, really?

‘It’s exhausting. It’s completely exhausting.

This is not the first time Mr Albanese has expressed his feelings.

He has previously spoken about the heartbreak he felt when his ex-wife (and former NSW Deputy Premier) Carmel Tebbut blindsided him by leaving him on New Year’s Day 2019.

He told Rowe that flying to London and Lisbon for some “me time” had helped him come to terms with the breakdown of his marriage.

But it was a beacon of hope for Mr Albanese, who has now settled down with his now-partner Jodie Haydon after bonding over their shared love of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“Didn’t she slide into your DMs?” » asked Rowe.

“Um, she sent me a little, little message…and then I was at another event a few weeks later and she was there again,” Mr. Albanese replied.

“Then we had a drink at Young Henry’s in Newtown on a Friday afternoon and got on incredibly well.

“And now we are together and I am very happy.”

Ms Haydon has previously highlighted that it was only after Mr Albanese’s car accident in early 2021 that she realized the true extent of her feelings for him.

He laughed as he described a “proof of life” press conference he gave outside Sydney’s Royal Prince Albert Hospital, where he couldn’t remember exactly what he said due to the “painkillers serious” that he took.

But Mr Albanese insisted the impact of the car crash had changed the way he approached politics.

“It took me a while and the truth is I was more damaged than I let on,” he said.

“Politics is a really tough game and people were looking for signs of lingering damage.”

He said following a major shake-up of his leadership team he had pledged to be “much more relaxed” about things despite noise telling him he needed to change his approach to win the election .
