Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has explained how he and footy supremo Peter V’Landys will do everything they can to ensure US President Joe Biden attends the NRL’s historic double header in Las Vegas next March.
Albanese praised V’landys’ diligence after the duo’s visit to the White House last week.
The chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission met Biden in person at the invitation of Albanese, who flew to Washington to attend a state dinner.
The NRL plans to make Biden the guest of honor at next year’s double header, when the Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs, Broncos and Roosters kick off the NRL 2024 premiership at Allegiant Stadium in Sin City.
Albanese also confirmed that V’landys made an immediate connection with Biden as the NRL looked to tap into the lucrative US sports market.

“It was an incredible journey,” Albanese said News Corp.
‘It was also great to have Peter there. I made sure he had a good time to talk to Joe.
“Going to the White House was fantastic and a great honor to represent Australia.
“When I introduced Peter to Joe I mentioned the NRL matches that will take place in March next year and the competition will be held in the US.
“It’s a big problem.”
It comes as the NRL commits to playing annual matches in Sin City until at least 2028, if not beyond.
V’landys is convinced the NRL can be a big hit in America.
“We have set ourselves five years and if the results are not there in five years we will reassess, but I know we have the best game in the world,” he said.
‘There’s no game like rugby league. It has everything.’
