Why this selfie of Anthony Albanese posing with Budjerah and Lime Cordiale has infuriated Aussies
A selfie of a smiling Anthony Albanese with some of his favorite Australian musicians has landed him in an epic internet pile.
The Prime Minister, who has a long history of being photographed with rock stars and attending their shows, joined X to share his latest star encounter.
‘I love Australian music. So when two of my Hottest 100 picks, Budjerah and Lime Cordiale, came to Canberra, I couldn’t miss a chance to say hello,” he wrote.
But Mr Albanese’s joy at meeting the young Aussie rockers was not shared by most of the hundreds of commenters who responded to his post.
One disgruntled person used the Prime Minister’s words against him, writing: ‘Correction. You couldn’t miss a single opportunity to use your position as Prime Minister to take another shot.”
“That will help address the cost of living for Australians. You are the most unworldly Prime Minister in history,” wrote another.
A third asked: ‘Do you actually do anything other than take selfies?’
Another said Mr Albanese is “destroying our livelihoods and all you can do is pose for pictures with everyone.” Absolute disgrace!’

In October 2022, just over four months after becoming prime minister, Albanese showed at Midnight Oil’s farewell show in Sydney that his political moves are slicker than his dance moves.
The Oil’s ‘biggest fan’ was caught on camera doing a kind of dad dance during the performance at the Hordern Pavilion, pursing his lips as he shuffled awkwardly from one foot to the other as their 1982 anthem Power and the Passion blared.
The show was a reunion for Mr Albanese and Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett, who worked together a decade ago when the singer was a Labor MP and both served in Cabinet under Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard.
That concert came just six weeks after Mr Albanese presented the band with the 2022 Excellence in the Community Award for their “incredible” contribution to music.
The Prime Minister called the band a “force of nature” and said their music was the “national soundtrack.”
In June 2022, he also gave then New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern a Midnight Oil LP, along with albums from Spiderbait and Powderfinger.
Last December, Mr Albanese released his picks for Triple J’s Hottest 100 ahead of the station’s annual music countdown, sparking division and accusations that he is out of touch with ordinary Australians.
“People are struggling to feed their families, pay bills and repair broken cars. Living in tents, can’t pay the rent. People have lost homes, people have died in floods and you’re worried about Triple J’s top 10,” one user wrote.
“You just turn up the music when it comes to the cost of living,” said another.

There was an internet backlash Wednesday night, criticizing Anthony Albanese. One of the hundreds of tweets is shown
‘Real? People in Queensland are suffering… dying. And this is the best post you can make??”
As well as his love for Budjerah, Lime Cordiale and Midnight Oil, the Prime Minister was also spotted at a concert by Australian goth rocker Nick Cave, and was later gushed over on Instagram.
Mr Albanese is also known to do DJ sets in his home base of Marrickville, in Sydney’s west.
But his love for all things music couldn’t stop the attack on Wednesday night, where one poster spoke for many.
“When are you going to announce that Australia is in recession?” they wrote.
