Anthony Albanese is given a brutal reality check after boasting about his government’s achievements in end-of-year video

Anthony Albanese has sparked outrage after hailing his government's achievements over the past year as millions of Aussies continue to struggle.

The Prime Minister had shared the video on social media platform X, where Mr Albanese boasted about tackling the cost of living and inflation crisis.

The images were accompanied by stirring music, with Mr Albanese concluding by saying he was 'looking forward to delivering more in 2024'.

Matching positivity was hard to find in the comments on the video on Twitter and Instagram, with many noting the things Mr. Albanese didn't mention.

The failed referendum on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, immigration controversies and the fighting between Israel and Hamas were among the notable absent topics.

Others expressed disdain at the prime minister's list of achievements, saying they saw little evidence they were improving lives.

To kick off his message, Mr. Albanese, dressed in a light-colored suit, addressed the camera with arms wide open as he relaxed behind a desk as a background track of up-tempo feel-good keyboard music played.

'2023. The Matildas inspired a nation, Australians dominated Hollywood,” Albanese said.

'Vegemite turned 100, it was a big year.'

Associated footage showed the Australian women's football team at this year's World Cup, Australian actress Margot Robbie as Barbie in the Hollywood blockbuster of the same name and workers at a Vegemite factory.

“Even in the tough times we saw the best in Australia, bushfires and floods brought out the best in our community spirit and showed us the professionalism of our emergency services,” Mr Albanese continued.

“In tough times, Australians stick together and this year has been particularly tough for many people.

'Global inflation is being felt here at home. Families feel pressure.'

Mr Albanese said his government's focus was “mainly on easing the cost of living and removing pressure on inflation”.

He then listed some of the laws passed this year.

These include spending $250 million to provide more prescription drugs and extending scripts to 60 instead of 30 days, utility bill discounts, opening new free general health care clinics and seeing real wages rise for two quarters.

“There is still more to do and there are certainly big challenges ahead, but we have a big agenda for 2024,” Albanese said.

'Higher cost of living, strengthening Medicare, delivering more housing for Australia

'I am so grateful for the privilege I have of working for Australia and I look forward to achieving even more in 2024

“May I wish you and your family all the best for Christmas and a Happy New Year?”

“How can we overlook your other 'great' achievement?” one person wrote as he showed images on social media of a tent city that has sprung up next to the Brisbane River, near the center of Queensland's capital.

'A record for forcing so many working class people to live in tents because of the housing crisis. And I'm sure adding 600,000 migrants to the mix will magically solve everything.”

Another person made his own list of memorable “accomplishments.”

“1.5 million Australian children were going hungry,” they wrote.

“Homelessness has increased to unprecedented levels. Half a billion dollars has been injected through the wall.

“Australia is more divided than ever before. Four prime ministers have run away. Alan Joyce shared a sausage with Albo. Toto got a plane ride.”

The “half a billion dollars” was a reference to the amount spent on the failed Voice referendum.

Others were also keen to remind the Prime Minister that a measure he campaigned hard for was overwhelmingly rejected by more than 60 percent of voters in October.

'Who can forget when you call No Voters of the Vote “Chicken Small”!' another wrote.

“You are the first to divide and appoint Australians.”

The reactions on Instagram were just as loud.

“So where in Australia did this all happen?” someone asked skeptically.

'Because where I live we don't get anything cheaper, on the contrary.'

Another launched a lengthy tirade against Mr Albanese, accusing him of “tooting his own horn”.

“It's Christmas, some Australians are sleeping in tents, some have been laid off at Christmas,” they wrote.

'Prosperity does not cover basic living costs due to inflation. You have hate groups operating at full capacity… and what do you do about it?

“Take some pictures to show us how amazing your life is???

“Australians are furious.”

One noticed the prime minister's silence on immigration, an issue that has become a hot button issue following a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the release of detainees with serious criminal records, leading to six people reportedly having reoffended.

“And let's not forget you let in over 600,000 and on top of that you passed on a bunch of illegals with criminal records to the public,” the person wrote.

Some of the commentators asked why Mr Albanese had not mentioned the heavy fighting in Gaza.

“Forgot to add weekly (pro-Palestinian) protests outside your electorate office,” one person wrote.

“You know, it would have been nice if you had just acknowledged the global situation that is intensely affecting people.

“And you can even add the final vote to support the ceasefire. Just acknowledge it, buddy, enough with the disassociation.”

“The Australian government sat silently while thousands of Palestinian children were murdered by Israel,” said another.

However, Mr Albanese had at least one unapologetic fan who shared the Prime Minister's enthusiasm and optimistic outlook.

“Well done Labour, Albo and team,” read the comment on Instagram.

'Thank you for always making Australia better!!'
