Last week, the pair stunned fans by announcing that they would put Saturday Night Takeaway back on hiatus after its 20th series next year.

But while the pair are still committed to I’m A Celebrity and other shows, MailOnline has also revealed that ITV is holding crisis talks after they quit Saturday Night Takeaway.

Insiders at ITV say the bosses fear they have failed to produce a new generation of stars as viewers grow weary of their ‘Fab Four’ – Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, and Ant and Dec.

The Geordies’ shock decision to pause their long-running series comes after disappointing ratings for the final season – and while the feud between Holly and Phil sees This Morning viewers winding down.

Sources have told MailOnline that there is no real succession plan should the popularity of the ‘Fab Four’ begin to decline significantly, with insiders saying the broadcaster should have prepared for this ’15 years ago’.

Meanwhile, fans of Ant and Dec believe they’ve discovered the real reason why the pair walked away from their long-running entertainment show.

The hosts confirmed the surprising news in an Instagram video, stating that the multiple BAFTA-winning show will take a hiatus after 2024.

But fans think the timing of their exit announcement coincides perfectly with the highly publicized off-screen feud between ITV pals Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, with much speculation over whether the presenters will remain at the helm of This Morning.
