Despite this, fans have mocked Odegaard's teammates online, with one claiming: 'Sublime footballer. Deserved so much better yesterday.'
Another added: 'My captain dropped a 9/10 performance so the bums lost 2-0… I really hate that club.'
Others praised Odegaard's performance as a 'monster class', with Arsenal having 30 attempts on goal during the match but only managing eight shots on target.
“I'm sick bro, this monster class in a 2-0 defeat…” one wrote, while another added: “I saw the same people blaming him today like they do every week. Take a whole chair. Another WASTED masterclass.'
Losing to a rival club may never be easy, but one fan suggested that Odegaard not getting the recognition he deserved for his sublime performance could hurt more than the defeat.
“The fact that this masterclass was lost and he left the field without at least one assist and a man-of-the-match award hurt more than the loss itself.”
It was Arsenal's first home defeat this season, with the Gunners failing to overtake Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.
They are two points behind the second-placed Merseyside side, with Arteta expressing his frustrations after the match, adding that his side deserved to win the match.

Mikel Arteta admitted his frustrations after the defeat and added that his side deserved to win
“This is football,” said Arteta. 'We look at how much we have generated. The result is very disappointing. They were better than us in both boxes.
'It is what it is. We must try to generate. We didn't score with 30 shots. I can't imagine a more dominant game.
'Today it wasn't enough to win the match. It's football. The team generates so much, normally you start winning games.
'We generated so much against Brighton, and against Liverpool too. Today the team deserves to win the match.”
