- Robbie Dolan starred on stage
- Talented singer appeared on The Voice in 2022
Just when you thought Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan’s week couldn’t get any better, he gets to do an on-stage duet with singer and compatriot Ronan Keating.
After winning the great race aboard $81 outsider Knight’s Choice on Tuesday, Dolan proved he has a great voice at the Crown Oaks Club Lunch in front of 1,250 guests on Wednesday.
The pair sang When You Say Nothing At All, Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl and Ronan Keating’s Life is a Rollercoaster.
“I’ve never sung with Ronan before and we did a sound check, it was great,” Dolan said News Corp.
“It’s up there, it’s funny I thought I had reached a level but it just keeps going up.”
Dolan, who held the winning jockey’s cup in his hand the entire time he was on the podium, said after the race Tuesday how much he admired Keating.
Keating, who had bet on Dolan, was then pictured hugging him.
“He sang my song when he was on The Voice, so I just had to go see him,” he said via Racenet.
Dolan – from County Kildare, west of Dublin – moved to Australia with his family eight years ago and originally planned to stay for 12 months, but fell in love with the country.
A talented singer, the 28-year-old appeared on The Voice in 2022 and sang Daryl Braithwaite’s unofficial Cox Plate anthem ‘The Horses’ in The Valley that year.

“I’m going to sing tonight after a few beers,” Dolan said.
‘It’s amazing and a lot of people doubted this little horse. Now doubt me.”
Dolan had previously declared he would have to sensationally retire from racing if he ever won Australia’s big race.
But amid the festivities, Dolan walked back those comments, saying, “I’m not giving up. That feeling was too good.
‘I can’t believe it. I watched all the Melbourne Cups from the last 40 years last night and I thought my best chance was if I could get him to stay on the trip and I could hopefully rattle home.
“He just proved everyone wrong. This is the biggest race in the world and winning it is incredible.”
