Anneka Rice suffers an awkward blunder during the National Television Awards

Anneka Rice made a tricky blunder at the National Television Awards on Thursday, because she seemed to announce the wrong winner.

The TV personality, 64, was tasked with taking the stage and presenting an award in less than three minutes by presenter Joel Dommett, ahead of Challenge Anneka’s reboot this year.

But Anneka seemed to jump when she opened the card and blurted out: ‘The 1% Club!’ before she realizes she has to read out the rest of the nominees first.

When she went to the podium, she tried to correct her mistake as she continued to scroll down the list of names.

As the crowd cheered, she quickly added, “No! We’ve got Beat The Chasers, In for a Penny and Michael McIntyre. And the National Television Award goes to…’

“Do you have the sound ready for this?” she said, turning to sound engineer Dave Chapman, before announcing, “It’s going to, Beat The Chasers!”

It seems that Anneka wasn’t the only presenter to have an accident during the awards ceremony, as Gemma Owen was mocked online after an awkward moment on stage.

The Love Island star, 19, presented the gong for Serial Drama Performance alongside her famous footballer dad Michael.

After the names of each of the four nominees were called as clips of their work were shown on screen, it was time to announce the winner.

But when the camera returned to the father-daughter duo, there was a pause where they said nothing for a few awkward seconds.

Michael then muttered, “Open it” as Gemma looked at the envelope with the winner inside.

She then finally read out the name of Mark Charnock who won the gong for his role as Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale.

Gemma brought her father Michael as her date to the National Television Awards on Thursday night, leaving her boyfriend Luca Bish at home.

Speaking to MailOnline, the former footballer, 42, said: ‘Really proud of all four’ [children]. My kids, clearly Gemma is the oldest, you know, I had no doubts when she went to the show and no doubts about her future, really.
