The late Anne Heche said last year that she had ‘warned’ Portia de Rossi not to get romantically-involved with her ex-girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres.
In a June 2021 edition of her podcast Better Together with Heather Duffy, Heche – who died at 53 earlier this month from injuries she suffered in a car crash – said that she had advised de Rossi, 49, against pursuing a relationship with DeGeneres, 64.
Heche, who was in a relationship with DeGeneres from 1997 thru 2000, was acquainted with de Rossi as they both appeared on the Fox series Ally McBeal. She noted that de Rossi was a guest at her 2001 wedding to to ex-husband Coleman Laffoon.

On the podcast, Heche said that ‘Portia even asked me about Ellen’ and told her ‘I’m gonna go after Ellen.’
Heche said that she told the Horsham, Australia-born actress that she would not receive any notoriety from the relationship during a time there were few same-sex couples in show business.
Heche said she told de Rossi, ‘You won’t be the poster child, girl, because guess what, that poster child has already been taken; and by the way, it wasn’t a great spot. But, yours ain’t gonna be any easier. And I’m telling you now, like, red flag, red flag, red flag!’
Heche added: ‘I realized that Ellen drove a Porsche … and then she married one. All she used to do was drive Porsches and she collected them and I just thought it was so stupid because they were so loud.’

Last October, Heche told Page Six that the relationship with DeGeneres negatively impacted her career, as she ‘didn’t do a studio picture for ten years’ in the wake of the romance, which went public after they emerged as a couple to the premiere of her movie Volcano in 1997.
‘I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture,’ Heche said, adding that the ‘repercussions that happened’ to her also helped create ‘a part of the change’ toward inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
DeGeneres and de Rossi earlier this week celebrated the 14th anniversary of their wedding. DeGeneres took to Instagram and said, ‘It’s good to be loved. It’s profound to be understood. I love you, @portiaderossi. Happy 14!’
On Wednesday, officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled in a report that Heche’s death was accidental and the result of ‘inhalation and thermal injuries’ she suffered in an August 5 car crash into a Mar Vista, California home.

Heche suffered a ‘sternal fracture due to blunt trauma’ in the crash, according to the report, which listed her date of death as August 11.
Heche on Sunday was ‘peacefully taken off life support,’ her representative Holly Baird said.
The actress is survived by son Homer, 20, from her former marriage to Laffoon, 48, and son Atlas, 13, with former partner James Tupper, 57.
Authorities with the Los Angeles Police Department have scuttled a probe into the crash in the wake of her death, as investigators said narcotics were detected in a blood sample taken.
Heche had won a Daytime Emmy award for her work on the soap opera Another World, and went on to appear in a number of high-profile late 90s films, including Donnie Brasco, Wag the Dog, Six Days Seven Nights and Psycho.
