Anne Hathaway credits director Christopher Nolan with helping save her career after public opinion turned against her following her 2013 Oscar win.

The 41-year-old actress told Vanity Fair that “a lot of people didn’t want to give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” following her win for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Fantine in 2012’s Les Misérables ..

“I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who didn’t care about any of that and gave me one of the greatest roles I’ve had in one of the best films I’ve been a part of,” she said, referring to her role as NASA scientist Dr. Amelia Brand in 2014’s Interstellar.

“I don’t know if he knew at the time that he was supporting me, but it did have that effect,” the versatile star said in the interview.
