Anna Kendrick has criticized a director for embarrassing her in front of 100 extras after an improvised scene.

After being asked the worst comment she’s ever received during a shoot, the 39-year-old Pitch Perfect actress shared her encounter with an unnamed director who belittled her after they asked her to “make something up” and script to deviate.

Anna opened up about the ‘icky’ moment during a live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, saying the incident felt like a ‘power move’ on their part.

She recalled, “I remember a director once sitting in a room full of a hundred extras or something saying, ‘Hey, just try something on the next one.’ Just make something up. Just improve something.”

“And I did it and then the director called Cut and came over and, again in front of a hundred extras, said, ‘Whew, let’s get back to the script!’

‘It really felt like a very specific power move to embarrass me, to gain dominance. It was very scary.

“And then the thing I improved ended up in the trailer. So, f*ck you!’

Although Anna didn’t reveal the name of the director, the live audience gasped audibly when she shared her story about the episode.

Anna has appeared in more than 40 films, including Twilight, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and A Simple Favor.

While she’s received her fair share of director endorsements, she recently made her own directorial debut for the Netflix crime thriller Woman of the Hour.

The recently released film, written by Ian McDonald, is based on the true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala and his 1978 appearance on the television show The Dating Game, in the midst of his killing spree.

The film stars Anna as game show contestant Cheryl Bradshaw and Daniel Zovatto as Alcala, alongside Nicolette Robinson and Tony Hale.

At the time of the show, Alcala had murdered at least five women, and his appearance in the episode later earned him the nickname The Dating Game Killer.

In a recent interview, Anna revealed that there is a particularly ‘weird’ moment in Woman of the Hour that she experienced in real life when she was just 19 years old.

During an appearance on The View, she said, “There’s a scene at the beginning where I’m in a casting office and I’ve stolen little things from my real life.

“There’s a moment where they ask me if I do nudity and they make a really weird, specific comment about my body that’s taken verbatim from something that happened to me when I was 19.”

The scene Anna was referring to takes place early in the film, when her character Cheryl finds herself in a Hollywood casting call in 1978.

When Cheryl tells the directors she’s uncomfortable with nudity, one of the men stares straight at her and says, “I’m sure they’ll be fine.”

Anna confirmed that this had happened to her 20 years ago, adding: ‘I just thought, “Oh, do you guys mind saying this?” And I wasn’t sure if I would keep it in the movie, but it’s funny in the movie. We can all laugh at my humiliation, that’s fine, it’s allowed.’
