Anna Kendrick recalls ‘abusive, awful’ ex and the one thing she needs in future partners
Two years after publicly revealing that she had survived a psychologically abusive relationship, Anna Kendrick continued on Wednesday to discuss her “terrible” ex-boyfriend, whom she had considered her “husband” in “every way.”
‘I didn’t expect him to be so convinced of his own victimhood. I think he really believed I was torturing him,” the 39-year-old Oscar nominee recalled Call her daddy.
‘I just cried because I couldn’t pretend that everything was going well anymore. I just started crying and he screamed in my face, “You’re terrorizing me!” But it really came from the position of someone who believed he was being terrorized.”
Anna continued, “It was very, very difficult to actually say, ‘No, this, I think this is, I think this is him. I think this is his stuff.’ I turned my life completely upside down and tried to solve what was wrong with me.’
During their relationship therapy sessions, Kendrick was jealous of her ex’s ability to stay calm while she “lost my dick” in front of their therapist, who later apologized to her.
Two years after publicly revealing that she had survived a psychologically abusive relationship, Anna Kendrick continued to discuss her “terrible” gaslighting ex-boyfriend, whom she had considered her “husband” in “every way” on Wednesday.
“I’m trying so hard to appease this person, they’re so damn horrible. So how bad is it going to be now that I screamed?’ the Maine native wondered.
“Strangely enough, he was doing well.”
Anna claimed she had ‘just gotten out’ of the seven-year relationship before filming abuse drama Alice, Darling in 2021 – the same year she dated her Noelle co-star Bill Hader.
Before the 46-year-old SNL alum, Kendrick had a romance with cinematographer Ben Richardson, who shot four of her films: Drinking Buddies (2013), Happy Christmas (2014), Digging for Fire (2015) and Table 19 (2017).
The Tony-nominated actor is now single and she has only one requirement when it comes to future partners.
“I never get into a relationship with a man – which means we don’t even kiss, we don’t even have a real conversation – unless you are or have been in therapy,” Anna stated.
Kendrick is currently celebrating her feature film debut Woman of the Hour in impressive fashion Netflix’s Top 10 Most Streamed Movies this week.
The 94-minute crime thriller currently has a 91% ‘certified new’ rating from critics (out of 129 reviews) and a 68% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
