The best organising hack of 2024: Why a $4.50 item from Kmart is flying off the shelves for its multi-purpose use

An Australian cleaning and organization guru has shared her number one hack of 2024 using a $4.50 Kmart product and a common cupboard staple.

Anita Birges, who leads Mise en Place Professional Organizing, revealed the simple idea that everyone in the home can use to store things.

In one video, she used a paper towel stand from Kmart and an adhesive hook to make a wall hanging.

With the stand attached horizontally to the hook, it can be used to hang multiple hats, headbands, hair clips, scrunchies, bags and spare hangers.

‘Listen, because you’re going to love this DIY organizing hack! There are so many uses for this one, just take a look,” Anita explained in the video.

First, she carefully bent the paper towel holder slightly at an angle to keep the items from sliding off. She then placed several items on the hanger.

The short video quickly racked up more than 69,000 views, with many thanking Anita for sharing the ‘fantastic’ idea.

“Perfect idea, thank you very much,” one person wrote.

“This means you won’t hear me asking where we keep spare hangers anymore,” says another.

A third added: ‘I have one of these hanging in the toilet room, used by men in my house to keep spare toilet rolls. I don’t like objects on the floor.’

The handy tip is also a great alternative to placing shelves or fixed wall hooks.

Last year, Anita also shared her simple hack to prevent mold and prevent pests in your wardrobe.

Anita recommended using large pieces of chalk along with essential oils of clove, lavender and peppermint to solve all your problems.

The expert simply adds a few drops of clove oil to a giant chalk marker and places it in her drawer to absorb moisture and kill mold spores.

You can find the chalk at several Australian retailers, including Kmart – where you can buy a pack of 20 for just $3.25.

Anita recommends placing the DIY deterrents on the side of your drawers and on the top shelf of your wardrobe, without a tray.

The pro also revealed that it’s best to stick to white chalk so that pigment doesn’t end up on your clothes.

You will need some drops of lavender oil on another piece of chalk to remove moths and silverfish.

Finally, peppermint oil works wonders to keep your drawers smelling fresh and discourages spiders, mice, and other creepy crawlies.

Anita recommends putting two to three drops of essential oil per giant piece of chalk.

She buys all her oils from her local pharmacy.
