An excited Matildas fan has spoken out about Sam Kerr being repeatedly snubbed in her eyes when it comes to talking about Australia’s greatest ever goalscorer.
Self-proclaimed feminist Wil Stracke posted a recent TikTok clip asking why Kerr’s decorated performance on the pitch isn’t recognized in the same breath as Socceroos legend Tim Cahill.
Cahill, 43, scored 50 goals in 108 international appearances before retiring in 2018 – and Kerr found the back of the net for Australia on 63 occasions.
Stracke was baffled why the achievements of both footballers are considered separate.
“Early last year, a sports commentator (football legend Robbie Slater) wrote an article saying that while Sam Kerr had scored more goals for Australia, her record was not equal to Tim Cahill’s,” began Stracke’s video – which has been viewed nearly 300,000 times. has been viewed. .

“The article (also) said that you can’t compare men’s and women’s sports… unless you’re talking about Australia’s best ever goalscorer, shouldn’t it just be a matter of counting the goals?
Stracke went on to point out that if you Google the question, “article after article only lists men” and that “the clear standard is that sport is equal to men” and women just do “women’s sport.”
She concludes her argument by suggesting that Cahill is the Socceroos leading goalscorer, but that Kerr holds the Australian record.
Slater’s now infamous News Corp column left Kerr, 29, “disgusted and furious” with the Matildas captain labeling the piece’s content as “the most sexist thing you could say.”
Kerr was furious at Slater’s claim that her national team goalscoring record is ‘not equal’ to Cahill’s.

“Literally the most sexist thing you could say – not right,” Kerr said in the pre-World Cup documentary on Disney+ titled Matildas: The world at our feet.
“Imagine little girls reading that.
“I can’t believe in this day and age that someone could write this and get young girls to read it, and that the (Daily) Telegraph would actually publish such a sexist commentary on the front page.”
‘NOT EQUAL’, ‘RESPECTFUL’ and ‘IT’S RIDICULOUS’ were used in large block letters on both the cover and front and back pages of last January’s sports section of the Daily Telegraph to describe how strong Slater felt.
“Let’s not declare Kerr Australia’s all-time best goalscorer,” wrote the Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers.

The sports section’s front (right) and back (left) pages continued to attack the rhetoric that Kerr broke the record, which Robbie Slater said was “disrespectful” to Cahill.

‘Do not get me wrong. Sam Kerr is a fantastic player and I’m delighted that she has now scored 54 times for Australia… yes, she has scored more goals for the Matildas than any other player in history.
“But Tim Cahill was a Socceroo, not a Matilda. His 50 goals for the Socceroos is a record not to be overshadowed by Kerr’s achievements.
“This is disrespectful to Cahill.”
But Cahill, arguably the greatest Australian male player of all time, clearly didn’t want to be a part of it.
“Congratulations Sam Kerr on this great achievement. You are an inspiration to the world and I am one of your biggest supporters and I am always here for you in and out of the park. Keep breaking records and above all enjoy the journey,” he continued social media at the time.
The World Cup semi-final between the Matildas and England kicks off at 8pm AEST on Wednesday evening.
