Anger as Ovo curbs access to accounts

Ovo Energy was criticized for preventing thousands of customers from logging into their online billing accounts for the rest of the year

Ovo Energy has been criticized for preventing thousands of customers from logging into their online billing accounts for the rest of the year.

The UK’s fourth-largest supplier – with around 5 million customers – said it was moving groups of customers to a new website. This means their online accounts “will not be available until late 2023,” Ovo said.

The move has sparked anger among users who fear they won’t be able to track their usage or stay on top of payments. They have been told that they will continue to receive monthly statements via email and post.

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said this ‘goes against what customers need and what energy companies believe they should be doing’.

Regulator Ofgem is monitoring the situation.

A spokesperson for Ovo: “We are migrating a small number of customers to a new website.”
