‘No one has ever done that for me. She was taken seriously.

‘It is a gift to be able to live a life as an artist, and this role has made me rediscover art and artistry. I rediscovered that through Maria.’
Angelina said she spent months learning to sing opera to play Maria Callas and in the film her voice is mixed with Callas’.
On Monday, she was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her role as Maria.
About the training, she said: ‘You really can’t fake an opera. It doesn’t work. It has to be a whole-body thing before it can happen.
The problem with opera is that you have to sing it quite loudly. I’ve had times when everyone is gone because that’s when I get loud.
“I wasn’t sure I was ready to visit that level of truth and pain. I can see her (Maria’s) love for her work, but I can also see that there was a certain amount of pressure and pain.”
She added: “I watched Callas’s really old interviews and they spent hours talking to her about her craft. No one has ever done that for me. She was taken seriously. I haven’t allowed myself to just enjoy myself [being an artist]because it’s about celebrities or business’

She added that she found singing opera a form of therapy.
‘I would recommend it to everyone. When people experience things in their lives, this is stored in their bodies. It’s in your stomach and your posture changes – but to sing opera you have to unlock all those parts.
“I got very emotional because when you start expressing it, it’s very, very primal.”
Angelina starred in Maleficent, Mr & Mrs Smith and last month it was announced that the Oscar-winning actress will play the leading role in the film Stitches, which is set ‘in the world of high fashion’ in Europe.
She shares three biological children with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60 – Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 – as well as their adopted children Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19.
