Angel Reese breaks WNBA rebounding record just days after honoring the great Dennis Rodman by wearing his Pistons replica jersey

Angel Reese’s spectacular debut season continued on Sunday when he broke the WNBA record for most rebounds in a single season.

The Chicago Sky star grabbed 19 rebounds in a loss to the Minnesota Lynx, bringing her total for the year to 418. Her 405th board came in the second quarter, breaking Sylvia Fowles’ 404 from 2018.

Fowles joined the league in 2015. In her third year, she broke the record set by Jonquel Jones the year before in her sophomore year by one rebound.

Reese’s historic achievement came two days after she honored one of the game’s best rebounders, Dennis Rodman, by wearing his Detroit Pistons jersey on Friday.

The former LSU star grabbed 11 rebounds in her 27th straight game, with double-digit rebounds in a loss to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Like Reese, Rodman was a force on the boards during his illustrious NBA career. In addition to two titles with the Pistons and three more with the Chicago Bulls, Rodman was a seven-time NBA rebounding champion.

He currently ranks 23rd in the NBA standings with 11,954 rebounds.

In addition to her impressive rebounding, Reese is also a top performer in other areas.

Reese is averaging 13.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. She also has 23 double-doubles this season, including 15 in a row — another of her rookie feats.
