Socceroos legend Robbie Slater says Ange Postecoglou would be making a BIG mistake if he took over as Everton manager, after being blacklisted from the club to replace Frank Lampard.

Robbie Slater has warned Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou not to go to Everton, should an offer come up, and the Socceroos legend insists a move to the Premier League club would be a “big risk”.

Postecoglou is reportedly among a shortlist of candidates for the Goodison Park job after the Toffees sacked Frank Lampard this week, with the club languishing in the relegation places in England’s top flight.

Sportsmail understands that Marcelo Bielsa is Everton’s first choice for the vacancy, although the former Leeds manager has reservations about the lack of pace in the first team.

And if the Merseyside club turn their attention to Postecoglou, former Australia star Slater has implored his compatriot to reject any advances and thinks it is best to stay at Parkhead.

“Ange is not going to Everton,” Slater said via Fox Sports. “It is a club in crisis. It would be crazy of you to go there.

“They are in serious danger of being relegated, it would be a big risk, and you don’t need to take it considering the job you have at the moment.”

Postecoglou have enjoyed great success with the Scottish club, regaining the league title last season while they enjoy a healthy lead at the top of the table this season.

“Ange is a very good manager and will eventually manage in the (English) Premier League, so he doesn’t need to go to a club in crisis.”
