Ange Postecoglou spoke out about Tanguy Ndombele during his first press conference as Tottenham Hotspur manager on Monday afternoon.

The former Celtic manager took over the reins at Spurs this month and is settling into his new squad, including midfielder Ndombele, who spent last season on loan at Napoli, where he was part of the team that won the Serie A title.

But with a new manager at Tottenham comes a fresh start for the Frenchman in north London, and Postecoglou was impressed with the midfielder’s efforts during their early training sessions together.

Postecoglou said, “Tanguy has been good. He has worked hard in training, as they all have because they have no choice!

‘I take things as I see them. He was part of a Serie A winning side last season and he is working well.

“Within that context, I’m glad he’s here and part of the group. What that means in the long run, we’ll see. Who knows, maybe he doesn’t want to be part of it.’

While Ndombele made just eight league starts for Napoli in their stunning run to the Italian title, it has shown he is capable of going the extra mile in quality and winning trophies – something the Spurs have struggled with in recent seasons have had to achieve.

Spurs appointed Postecoglou this summer after a turbulent and disappointing campaign in the Premier League that saw them finish outside the European places.

Elsewhere in Postecoglou’s debut chat with reporters at Tottenham, he revealed he has had no assurance Harry Kane will play in a white shirt next season, with rumors that Bayern Munich are very keen to take over the England captaincy in their bid to to retain their Bundesliga title.

Tottenham’s summer signing this year includes striker James Maddison, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and midfielder Dejan Kulusevski, who has joined on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell.

Spurs will begin their Premier League campaign on August 13 at West London club Brentford, ahead of their first home game of the season against Man United six days later.
