Ange Postecoglou joked that Tottenham have missed a ‘good opportunity’ in the transfer market, following Lewis Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari.
Hamilton’s move, unveiled on Thursday, is being called the biggest in the sport since the British Formula 1 star joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013.
F1 fans joked that Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari in 2025 is the ‘biggest signing of the transfer window’ and Spurs boss Postecoglou appeared to agree.
Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Everton on Saturday: ‘The only disappointing thing for us was that I felt there was a good chance for us but the club didn’t feel that chance was big. right away and he ended up going somewhere else.
‘He went to Ferrari instead… I sent you all there, didn’t I? “I felt like you needed something after a bit of a flat day yesterday.”

Shortly afterwards, however, the Tottenham boss gave an actual reflection on his side’s winter transfer window, praising the deals they got over the line.
He said: ‘We had clear objectives. We had a gap at center back after letting Davinson Sánchez go and it was great to bring Radu in.
‘Getting Timo early is also excellent. We’ve had injuries while Sonny has been away, and he’s already contributed. If we leave it until the last day, it will take time to settle down. Both are well organised.
‘With the expenditure we have obtained a number of good loans. With Alejo it is great for him to get playing time at a good club. Players like Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine also received good loans.’
Late on Deadline Day it was announced that Tottenham striker Veliz had secured a move to LaLiga side Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
Veliz joined Spurs from Rosario Central for £12 million in August, becoming Ange Postecoglou’s second signing after Micky van de Ven.
However, he has struggled for game time in England, making just eight substitute appearances in the Premier League and failing to start a single match in all competitions.

Mail Sport understands Hamilton has secured a seat to drive for the Italian company, which has reportedly offered him a £40m incentive to sign up for the 2025 season
He is now on loan to Sevilla in the hope of getting more playing minutes before the end of the season.
Veliz scored his only Tottenham goal in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton in December but is behind the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison in the pecking order.
In the meantime, Mailsport understands that seven-time world champion Hamilton has secured a seat to drive for the Italian company, which has reportedly offered him a £40 million incentive to sign up for the 2025 season.
After two challenging seasons for Mercedes, who have failed to keep pace with Red Bull, Ferrari are believed to be close to convincing Hamilton he has a better chance of success with them.
