Ange Postecoglou insists he is planning for life with Harry Kane despite his continued victory lap after scoring four goals in Shakhtar Donetsk friendlies.

Harry Kane scored four more goals for Tottenham Hotspur in a dragging lap of honour, but Ange Postecoglou is set to start the Premier League season with the England captain up front.

“There’s no doubt I’d use Harry,” said Postecoglou, when asked about Sunday’s opener against Brentford following Sunday’s 5-1 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in a pre-season friendly.

“He’s a fantastic striker, one of the best in the world. The way the team plays will help him. He likes goals, we created a lot of chances today and he was the beneficiary.’

Bayern Munich have bid £86 million for Kane and have made it clear they are keen to see the deal completed in time for Saturday’s DFL Super Cup against Leipzig, threatening to turn their attention to targets such as Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic if Spurs stay focused to postpone.

“There is one deadline and that is the end of the transfer window,” said Tottenham boss Postecoglou. ‘In addition, I am regularly in open dialogue with Harry and the club.

“I told them if the status quo changes, you have to inform me. I don’t need to know the comings and goings in between. I just want to deal with what’s in store for me because regardless of the outcome, I’m building a team here.

Either way, I can’t wait for a decision to get started. We don’t have the time or luxury for that. I work with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry is definitely invested in what we do and we will continue to do so unless something changes.’

There was also a swipe at Bayern’s very public pursuit. “What is factual at the moment is that he is a contracted player of our football club,” Postecoglou said. “I certainly wouldn’t talk about players signed to other football clubs, but I’m not with Bayern, so they can go as they please.”

Kane played 80 minutes before making way for Dane Scarlett, who scored Tottenham’s fifth.
