Ange Postecoglou has included Djed Spence in Tottenham’s starting XI for the first time in their clash with Southampton on Sunday evening.
The full-back joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in 2022 for £20 million but has made just eight appearances since.
He has had three loan spells during his time at the club, with Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa.
The north London side have not won in five games, forcing Postecoglou to try something new with his squad.
They sit a dismal twelfth in the table, ten points behind Man City, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot. With 20 points, Spurs are closer to Ipswich in the relegation zone (12 points) than to City.
On 19 August 2024, Spence made his first appearance for Tottenham since January 2023. He replaced Pedro Porro in their first Premier League match of the season – a 1–1 draw against Leicester.
