Ange Postecoglou comes out firing as he insists ‘I don’t feel any extra anxiety’ despite Tottenham’s poor form… with teenagers drafted in to solve Spurs injury crisis ahead of clash with Wolves

Ange Postecoglou has vowed to keep his nerve during Tottenham’s latest series of setbacks and failures.
He rejected the idea that the pressure should increase and that fear would seep in, stressing instead that his players are behind him, fully on board with his adventurous playing style and that the club’s recruitment department is trying to do what he sees as the worst to ease the injury crisis from his coaching career. .
“I understand that people look at my situation and think, ‘Gee, he has to do something or he’s going to get in trouble,’ but I don’t think that way,” Postecoglou said. ‘I’m not like that.
‘My motivation is to create teams that win things and have success. That doesn’t really change. I will continue to do what I do. It doesn’t add any pressure and I don’t feel any extra anxiety about anything. I am confident we will get through this and come out stronger and create the team we want to be.”
Spurs have lost four of their last five in the Premier League and suffered another untimely blow yesterday (FRI), with Ben Davies ruled out for at least two weeks after suffering a setback on his return to training after a three-week absence with a hamstring problem.
Djed Spence will miss Sunday’s match against Wolves, suspended after a red card in the Boxing Day defeat at Nottingham Forest. Radu Dragusin is struggling to be fit with an ankle injury from the same match.

With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven still missing, Postecoglou is desperately short of central defense. Yves Bissouma and Alfie Dorrington will lead the contenders to partner Archie Gray once Dragusin is out.
Still, Postecoglou tried to remain positive. “We’re not that far off,” he said. ‘A week ago I was sitting here after winning the Carabao Cup quarter-final and beating Southampton 5-0. And we’re in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and we’re still in a great position in Europe and there’s the FA Cup.
‘Our position in the competition is not great, but it is super tight. If you look at some teams that are four or five points above us, I don’t think this will change much in the coming period because all the teams you see suffer at some point. Ours is probably a bit more extreme than others, but I’m confident we’ll get through it.
“There’s still everything we need to play for this year to make it a season where we can be successful.”
But reinforcements would certainly help. “The players need some help, more importantly, and the club is working very hard to make that happen,” Postecoglou said, but the January market could be tough and Tottenham plan to keep their discipline in line with the recent periods.
Richarlison and Mikey Moore are expected back in training next week before the Premier League match against Newcastle, and Yang Min-Hyeok, an 18-year-old South Korean winger, could join in the new year.
Yang signed with Gangwon in July but completed the K-League season before transferring to London.
Postecoglou insisted the players were still fully behind his methods. “They’re still trying so hard,” Postecoglou said. ‘That’s the first thing you look at as a manager: are the players still responding or are they looking for an alternative?

“It’s human nature to think we have to do something different, otherwise we’re clearly understaffed, let’s make a change. I didn’t feel that. The players still want to approach this the way we approach it. It’s an honor for them.
“But it’s up to me to get them through that and show them that all these things are temporary, and you will get through it. If we get through it in a positive way, the bonus and benefit is that you become stronger.
‘There are always people in life that people look at with a little curiosity, because they do things a little differently and are a bit of a joke, until they get it right and then suddenly they’re a genius. That’s probably relevant to us right now.”
