Ange Postecoglou blamed the fatigue of his injury-ravaged Tottenham squad after they suffered a thumping 4-2 defeat at Brighton on Thursday evening.

A series of penalties from Joao Pedro and strikes from teenager Josh Hinshelwood and Pervis Estupinan gave the Seagulls a four-goal lead before a late attack from Postecoglou's side got going.

Alejo Veliz and Ben Davies pulled back what seemed like a consolation, but Postecoglou's side bombarded Brighton with a series of shots in the closing stages.

Tottenham were missing a host of players through injury and suspension, with centre-back Cristian Romero ruled out for five weeks before the match and Oliver Skipp missing the ball after a late knockout.

“We probably looked a little tired,” Postecoglou said. 'The boys have put in a great shift in recent weeks.
