Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Kansas City Royals game against the Minnesota Twins on Opening Day next week.
The Royals season begins March 28 at Kauffman Stadium, which shares a parking lot with Arrowhead Stadium.
Reid led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in five seasons and second straight title last month.
The Royals hope Reid’s presence will help revive a franchise that has had little success in the playoffs over the past 38 years.
From 1986 to 2013, the Royals did not reach the postseason.

The Royals haven’t made the postseason since 2015, when they won the World Series
Kansas City made back-to-back World Series trips in 2014 and 2015, winning a title in the latter season.
Since winning the World Series, the Royals have not made it to the postseason.
Reid has been head coach of the Chiefs since 2013 and has seen the Royals’ rise to champions up close and their struggles since.
The Chiefs have played in six straight championship games and lost in none of them in regulation.
Next year, the Chiefs will try to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to win three straight NFL championships. No team has done this since the 1965-67 Green Bay Packers.
